<< 1957-58 Minneapolis Lakers | 1959-60 Minneapolis Lakers >>

The 1958-59 Minneapolis Lakers saw Elgin Baylor explode onto the scene as a young 24-year old. He averaged 24.9 points and 15 rebounds per game. This gave the Lakers a 33-39 record that was good enough for second in the Western Division.

In the first round of the playoffs, the Lakers defeated the Detroit Pistons. They followed that up by upsetting the 49-23 St. Louis Hawks in six games to set up their first ever NBA Finals matchup against the Boston Celtics.

The Celtics, who went 52-20 that season, absolutely smoked the Lakers in four games to win their second championship.
