1962-63 Los Angeles Lakers Roster, Stats, Schedule And Results

<< 1961-62 Los Angeles Lakers | 1963-64 Los Angeles Lakers >>

The 1962-63 Los Angeles Lakers were once again the team to beat in the Western Division. Elgin Baylor continued to be one of the league’s premier players, but fell short of the MVP award behind Boston Celtics center Bill Russell and San Francisco Warriors center Wilt Chamberlain.

The Lakers finished the regular season 53-27, which was good enough for the No. 1 seed in the West and the second best record overall. In the divisional finals, the Lakers got past the St. Louis Hawks in seven games to set up a second straight battle against the Celtics in the finals.

Much like 1962, the Celtics were simply too good for the Lakers, needing just six games to win it all for the fifth consecutive year and the sixth in seven seasons. This put them ahead of the Lakers for most championships, holsing a 6-5 lead.
