By 1964-65, it was clear that the Los Angeles Lakers combination of Jerry West and Elgin Baylor simply wasn’t good enough to win a championship against the dynasty that was the Boston Celtics. L.A. bounced back from their down year in 1963-64 for a 49-31 record, good enough for first in the West.

The Lakers had no problems with the Baltimore Bullets in the divisional finals, but wound up facing the Celtics yet again in the NBA Finals.

As the story went in previous seasons, the Lakers were no match for Bill Russell and the Celtics. They won their seventh consecutive championship and eighth overall in just five games.
