The 1975-76 Los Angeles Lakers made a splash by acquiring Kareem Abdul-Jabbar from the Milwaukee Bucks. It did not translate to immediate success, as L.A. did not have quality talent surrounding the Hall of Fame big man. They finished 40-42 and would miss the playoffs for the second straight year.

A pitiful Midwest Division of the Western Conference allowed the 42-40 Phoenix Suns to make their way to the NBA Finals, where they would face a much more formidable opponent in the Boston Celtics.

The Celtics had the NBA’s second-best record at 54-28 and were ready to expand on their lead for most championships. They did so with relative ease, capturing their 13th NBA title.
