<< 1977-78 Los Angeles Lakers | 1979-80 Los Angeles Lakers >>

By 1978-79, it was clear that the Los Angeles Lakers were beginning to build something good. They had Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and had some great young players including Michael Cooper, Norm Nixon, and Jamaal Wilkes. This combination would net them a 47-35 record, landing them the Western Conference’s No. 4 seed.

They would get to the conference semi-finals by defeating the Denver Nuggets, but for the second straight season, they were ousted by the Seattle SuperSonics.

The SuperSonics would once again get to the Finals where they would play the Washington Bullets for a second consecutive time. This year, things went a little differently, as the SuperSonics nabbed their first title win.
