The Los Angeles Lakers didn’t have quite as dominant a regular season in 2000-01 as they did the year before. However, having just won a championship, they knew they were simply saving it for the playoffs. At 56-26, they were still able to grab the No. 2 seed, but that didn’t matter in the postseason.
The 2001 NBA playoffs remains one of the best postseason runs of all time. The Lakers swept their first three opponents, getting to the NBA Finals without losing a single game.
There, they went up against MVP Allen Iverson and the Philadelphia 76ers. In what was an incredible Game 1 performance, the Lakers dropped their first game of the playoffs. It would be their only loss, as they would win four straight to win their second consecutive championship.
