<< 2010-11 Los Angeles Lakers | 2012-13 Los Angeles Lakers >>

The 2011-12 Los Angeles Lakers were another year older, but looking for a chance to avenge a four-game sweep from the previous year. This season was shortened due to a lockout, meaning they played a condensed 66-game schedule that would put significant mileage on L.A.’s core.

Despite a difficult year, the Lakers finished with the No. 3 seed at 41-25. In the first round, they would face a difficult opponent in the Denver Nuggets. The Nuggets did not have any stars, but they made life difficult for the Lakers, pushing them to seven games. L.A. would go on to win, but would play a daunting Oklahoma City Thunder team in the second round.

The Thunder, led by Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook, and James Harden, beat the Lakers in five games. They would go on to win the conference and get to the Finals. There, they would meet up with the buzzsaw that was LeBron James and the Miami Heat.

The Heat won and James secured his first NBA championship after years of fighting for it with the Cleveland Cavaliers.
