After weeks of uncertainty, Mike D’Antoni took control of his fate with the head coach resigning as the head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers on Wednesday after almost two full seasons with the team.

Immediately following the news breaking about D’Antoni’s resignation, Laker legend Magic Johnson took to Twitter to express his feelings on the matter:

Ever since the Lakers front office decided to pass on hiring Phil Jackson in favor of D’Antoni, the five-time NBA champion has been adamant that the team made the wrong decision. Magic couldn’t believe the franchise would pass up on the opportunity to bring back Jackson for a third stint considering his track record.

As a result of Jackson being passed over, the Lakers have never been the same with the team struggling through two forgettable seasons, losing superstar Dwight Howard to free agency and Kobe Bryant suffering consecutive season-ending injuries.

Needless to say, nothing has gone right for the Lakers lately and D’Antoni deciding to step aside might be the first positive thing to take place in quite some time. Magic holding nothing back with his comments was a bit surprising, but also refreshing considering it was exactly what he was feeling, rather than the usual potentially correct response.
