With the 2014 NBA Draft hours away, the first step to rebuilding the Los Angeles Lakers back into a championship contender begins with the seventh pick. While the rumors will continue leading up to the draft, Mike Bresnahan of the Los Angeles Times reports they will keep the pick for now:

While there was disappointment when the Lakers received the seventh pick at the NBA Draft lottery last month, the team is expected to get a very talented prospect. Los Angeles is reportedly pondering between drafting a power forward or point guard with Julius Randle, Marcus Smart, Aaron Gordon, Noah Vonleh, and Elfrid Payton prime targets.

Although there will be talent available at the Lakers’ pick, they may eventually trade it in an attempt to quickly rebuild themselves into contenders once again. Over the past week, there have been rumors of the Lakers packaging the pick along with Steve Nash’s expiring contract.
