Kendall Marshall came on in the middle of last season and was a pleasant surprise as his court vision and passing ability really helped a Lakers team devoid of point guards thanks to injury.

Unfortunately, the Lakers have made a number of additions this off-season and that has forced them to release Marshall according to Yahoo! Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowski:

With the Lakers re-signing Jordan Hill and Nick Young, as well as bringing on Jeremy Lin, Carlos Boozer and Ed Davis, the team needed to clear a little more cap room to fit everyone in.

With the Lakers recently re-signing Xavier Henry, and likely to bring back Ryan Kelly, the numbers just didn’t add up for Marshall right now, but he could be back with the team.

If he does clear waivers, the Lakers will likely try to bring Marshall back on a minimum contract as point guard insurance. With Jordan Clarkson looking like a steal in the draft, plus Lin and Steve Nash, Marshall was very likely the fourth point guard on the depth chart.

The Lakers roster is finally beginning to fill out and fans now have a good idea of what the team will look like next season. The only thing left to do at this point is to hire a coach. Hopefully that will come sooner rather than later.
