The Los Angeles Lakers finished up their final NBA Summer League game Friday night. Throughout a full week of basketball, all eyes were on the Lakers draftees, Julius Randle and Jordan Clarkson (Clarkson was acquired for cash via the Washington Wizards with the 46th overall pick). Randle, who wasn’t officially signed until moments before the Lakers second game, played in four out of the Lakers five match-ups. Clarkson participated in all five.

By the end of Summer League, Clarkson averaged 15.8 points, 5.0 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game. In his four games, Randle averaged 12.5 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game.

Mark Madsen and Larry Lewis were the associate head coaches of the Lakers Summer League squad. After a week of watching the youngsters develop, Madsen assessed the strengths of their development over the course of the week.

Mark Madsen On Jordan Clarkson:

“If you ask my opinion, I think Jordan Clarkson had a tremendous summer league. I loved Jordan Clarkson’s energy. I loved his enthusiasm for the game and I love Clarkson’s ability to learn. He learned every set. He learned multiple options out of each set, for other positions, because now what Clarkson can do is tell people where to go on the court, and that’s the sign of a point guard who’s growing into the position.”

Mark Madsen On Julius Randle:

“The one thing about Julius Randle, he is always going to attack you. When Julius catches the basketball at the elbow or at the midpost, all the other players on the court are almost like a swarm of bees. The defense is looking at him, he’s got multiple sets of eyes just staring at what he’s going to do, and now he’s able to read it. I think maybe now he’s letting everything develop and Julius is finding open men, whether it’s at the three-point line or whether it’s cutting to the basket.”
