On Thursday, the Los Angeles Lakers learned they’d be without veteran point guard Steve Nash for the entire 2014-15 NBA season. Nash simply couldn’t bounce back after multiple injury setbacks.

With Nash on the shelf, Ronnie Price’s roster spot was basically set in stone with the Lakers needing the depth at the point guard position. Unfortunately, Price suffered a knee injury early in the preseason matchup against the Sacramento Kings on Friday night.

After heading to the locker room, Price was diagnosed with a sore knee and will be reevaluated on Saturday, according to the Lakers Twitter account:

Price collided with Darren Collison of the Kings and immediately grabbed his knee while noticeably in pain. Price tried to bring the ball up the floor, but it didn’t take long before head coach Byron Scott called for Jeremy Lin to check into the game.

Throughout the preseason, Price has impressed the coaching staff as well as superstar Kobe Bryant for his effort on the defensive end of the floor. Many believed that Price had earned a spot on the squad despite playing with a non-guaranteed contract.

Currently, the Lakers have 17 players on the roster with Nash included. The team needs to get the roster down to 15 before the start of the 2014-15 season on Oct. 28. If Price’s knee injury is serious, it may jeopardize his chances of a landing a spot on the squad.
