D’angelo Russell On Career Night: ‘i Don’t Play For Records Or Statistics’

D’Angelo Russell continues to take strides in improving his all-around game. Russell’s performance in the third preseason game for the Los Angeles Lakers was an indication of how far he’s come with the second-year guard exploding for a game-high 33 points in the win over the Denver Nuggets.

After leading the Lakers to their second win of the preseason, Russell spoke to the media about his performance and had an interesting comment about his approach heading into his second season, via the team’s Twitter account.

Clearly, Russell is highly motivated to help the Lakers turn the corner while proving to everyone the team made the right choice by drafting him No. 2 in last year’s draft. Along with Russell’s determination heading into his sophomore season, head coach Luke Walton has been encouraging him throughout the process of preparing for the 2016-17 campaign.

Walton has already developed a healthy relationship with his new point guard. Russell has a lot of respect for Walton, his coaching style, and the fact he’s very approachable. Everything seems to be heading in the right direction for Russell and Walton as they both make their transitions this year and appear on the same page right out of the gate.

Russell and company will look to keep making strides on Tuesday against the visiting Portland Trail Blazers. The Lakers will head back to the Staples Center to host the Blazers and their up-and-coming point guard Damian Lillard who will be Russell’s toughest test yet in the preseason.
