Lakers News: L.A. Acquires Houston Rockets Point Guard Tyler Ennis

The Los Angeles Lakers have been extremely active so far during the NBA trade deadline as Magic Johnson has not wasted any time in making moves since assuming his new role with the franchise.

The team has already mvoed veteran guard Lou Williams, and now the Lakers have swung another deal with the Houston Rockets, sending Marcelo Huertas to Houston in exchange for young point guard Tyler Ennis, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical:

Sources: The Lakers will send guard Marcelo Huertas to the Rockets in Ennis deal. The Rockets will waive Huertas.

Ennis is a former first-round pick back in 2014 with the Phoenix Suns. He has seen very little playing time for the most part, but this comes down to the Lakers taking a flyer out on a young player and seeing what he can do.

The team did the same thing some years ago when they traded for Kent Bazemore, and the goal here is the same. Ennis is a former first-round pick who never really has had a chance to show what he can do. He should get that chance now with the Lakers.

Getting rid of Huertas is a minor loss for the Lakers as he was not a part of the rotation and didn’t figure to be anytime soon. The Brazilian was a good veteran to have around, but his lack of shooting and defense made it tough for him to be on the court regularly.

In Ennis’ career, he is averaging 3.5 points and 1.8 assists while shooting 40.8 percent from the field in only 11.5 minutes.
