Lakers Nation News And Rumors Recap: L.A. Shuts Down Timofey Mozgov And Deng
Lakers Nation Roundtable: What Worries You Most About Team?
Gary A. Vasquez-USA TODAY Sports

Before Tuesday’s game against the Houston Rockets, head coach Luke Walton confirmed that both Timofey Mozgov and Luol Deng had been deactivated for the rest of the season. While this is great for the Lakers as they look to develop the young core, they owe Mozgov and Deng $102 million combined over the next three years.

The Lakers are headed for another top lottery pick as long as they stay within the top-3 of the draft. The team currently has the second worst record and is two “wins” behind the Phoenix Suns. The Suns have seemingly ’embraced the tank’ themselves as they announced Eric Bledsoe will miss the rest of the season. The Suns will now have one of the youngest starting fives in the league.

While keeping the pick is priority one for the remainder of this season, figuring out what to do with Mozgov and Deng is another story. Finding a trade partner is nearly impossible with the amount of years and money remaining of their deals so the Lakers will have to be creative if they plan on getting out of those contracts.
