Lakers Call-Up Derrick Caracter From the D-League

After playing five games in the NBA Developmental League, Derrick Caracter has been called up by the Los Angeles Lakers. In his time with the Bakersfield Jam, Caracter averaged 7.9 points per game, eight rebounds per game and 1.1 blocks per game.

Caracter was the Lakers’ 58th overall pick in the 2010 draft, but he has only played 40 games for the team. However, the injuries to Steve Blake and Andrew Bynum will allow Caracter to experience more playing time. This season in the NBA, Caracter is averaging 2.0 points and 1.1 rebounds in 5.3 minutes. Caracter’s size and his ability to grab rebounds will be a boon for the Lakers, and his presence will allow Lamar Odom and Pau Gasol to preserve their energy.

Derrick Caracter will play in the Lakers’ season finale in Sacramento.
