Lakers to work with GLAAD following Kobe slur

After Kobe Bryant’s highly publicized homophobic slur in this weeks win to the San Antonio Spurs, the Lakers have announced they are teaming up with the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) to try and eliminate the use of anti-gay language both on and off of the NBA court.

The Lakers and the gay-rights organization announced their partnership earlier today after Bryant apologized for his role in the controversy earlier this week.

We want to reaffirm our commitment to all our fans and our appreciation for the support we receive from all segments of society,” stated Lakers spokesman John Black. “We also understand the importance of positive messages in helping us convey this.”

“We appreciate the input we’ve received from GLAAD the past two days, and will look forward to working with them on ways to help educate ourselves and our fans, and to help keep language like this out of our game.”

Both the Lakers and GLAAD say their goal is to prevent all homophobic slurs, such as the one Bryant used on Tuesday, from appearing in the NBA in the future.
