<< 1981-82 Los Angeles Lakers | 1983-84 Los Angeles Lakers >>

In what was starting to become a theme for the 1980’s and the showtime Los Angeles Lakers, they were once again atop the Western Conference standings, finishing 58-24.

They were by far the team to beat out west, and while they didn’t sweep their way through the playoffs like in 1982, they still won with relative ease. They needed a five-game and a six-game series against the Portland Trail Blazers and San Antonio Spurs to get back to the Finals.

In the Eastern Conference, the Philadelphia 76ers were an unstoppable force. They went 65-17 and lost just one game during the first two rounds. This meant they would be back in the Finals against the Lakers.

This time, they had no plans of not finishing the job. The 76ers dominated the Lakers, winning four straight games all by at least seven points, to win the franchise’s first championship since 1967.
