Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Questions Scottie Pippen’s GOAT Argument

Lakers’ center Kareem Abdul-Jabbar has been in the news rather frequently over the past several weeks. At first he was discussing his displeasure with the Laker organization for failing to recognize him (at this time) with a statue outside of Staples Center. Now the NBA’s all-time leading scorer is back in the spotlight after writing a letter to former Chicago Bulls star Scottie Pippen.

For those unfamiliar with the story, last week Pippen declared that LeBron James may be ‘the greatest player to ever play,’ which was an apparent slight as his former teammate Michael Jordan. It’s no secret that many consider Jordan the best player in league history after his legendary career with the Bulls (and later on the Wizards).

Abdul-Jabbar’s letter to Pippen makes an argument that neither Jordan nor James is the best scorer in league history, and argues for another Laker legend, Wilt Chamberlain.

There is no question that Abdul-Jabbar brings up some intriguing points concerning numbers and statistics. To check out the complete letter and the rest of the story head over to the L.A. Times, where Mark Medina has put together an interesting piece on Kareem’s perspective.
