Los Angeles Lakers superstar Luka Doncic is one of the best players in the NBA today and has already established himself as an all-time elite scorer who loves competition and has no fear of facing off against anyone. Doncic also loves the game of basketball and has no doubt dreamed of taking on all of the best players the league has ever seen.
So it should come as no surprise that Doncic didn’t hesitate when, in an interview with Drafteados, he was asked which legend he would love to face 1-on-1. And that legend was none other than Michael Jordan, as translated by Luka Updates:
Question from little kid Erik:
– If you could play a game against any legend who would it be and why?
“Michael Jordan, easy answer. He was an incredible player and I’d love to play against him”
-Maybe in golf, have yall played yet?
“Not yet. I just started so I have more time” 😁… pic.twitter.com/eojP1iBM5Q— Luka Updates (@LukaUpdates) June 16, 2026
A 1-on-1 game between Doncic and Jordan would be an absolute must-watch showdown. And for as entertaining as the contest itself would be, maybe more fun would be the trash talk between the two both are well-known talkers who gain extra motivation from the talking.
Doncic is arguably the best scorer in the league today, a fact hard to argue considering he led the NBA in scoring at 33.5 points per game this past season. But of course, aside from his own scoring exploits, Jordan was also an elite defender who NBA Defensive Player of the Year in 1988, the same year he won his first NBA MVP award.
Doncic has yet to win an MVP award for himself and, more importantly, has yet to win an NBA Championship which continues to be the most important goal he has for himself right now. Injuries ruined the end of this past season for Doncic, but hoisting that Larry O’Brien trophy continues to be what drives him most, just as was the case when Jordan was at his peak.
Luka Doncic calls this important offseason for Lakers after ‘bad season’
To that point, Doncic recently spoke about this upcoming offseason being a very important one for the Lakers as they look to make the leap from good team to championship contender. Doncic also added that he felt this was a bad season as any season in which a championship isn’t one can’t be considered good.
