Cameron Carr was not expected to still be on the board at the 24th pick of the 2026 NBA Draft, but once he fell the Los Angeles Lakers made sure he didn’t drop any further, trading up one spot to select him. And the promising guard made a strong first impression at the Las Vegas Summer League.

Carr appeared in four games in Vegas, averaging 18 points and 2.2 rebounds and his highlight reel from Summer League showed off his impressive array of skills:

What is truly impressive about Carr’s reel is the variety of ways in which he scores. He showed off the ability to attack the basket off the dribble and finish at the rim with authority and through traffic. He also showed his ability to play off the ball, utilizing backdoor cuts and coming off screens to knock down jumpers and get to the rim as well. Carr also showed he can push the ball in transition as well as his ability as a defender, coming up with some impressive weak side blocks.

His efficiency wasn’t great in Las Vegas, particularly from deep as he shot just 19.2% from 3-point range, but that was likely affected by the minor thumb injury he suffered on his shooting hand. In three games at the California Classic, he knocked down 40.9% from deep so he undoubtedly has the ability to be a great shooter at this level.

It will be interesting to see if Carr will be able to crack head coach JJ Redick’s rotation as a rookie. He has the physical tools and has already spoken about his desire to improve defensively as he knows that will be the best way for him to earn minutes early on. It won’t be easy as he’ll be competing with new signings Ziaire Williams and Matisse Thybulle, as well as his Summer League teammate Adou Thiero for minutes on the wing. But if he can prove to be an impactful defender while knocking down open threes at a high rate, it will be hard to keep him off the floor.

Cameron Carr eager to keep learning after Summer League

Now that his first Summer League experience is over, Carr is eager to continue learning and improving ahead of his rookie season with the Lakers.
