Cameron Carr Unable To Attend Luka Doncic’s Minicamp

SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA - JULY 03: Cameron Carr #43 of the Los Angeles Lakers looks on against the Golden State Warriors during the first half in the California Classic a NBA Summer League game at Chase Center on July 03, 2026 in San Francisco, California. The Los Angeles Lakers have a completely revamped roster with a number of new additions to the team. With that though, the Lakers will need to build up chemistry and superstar Luka Doncic is already embracing his role as the leader of this team by hosting a minicamp for the entire roster in his native Slovenia.

Nearly every player on the roster, even down to the two-way players, will be chartered and hosted by Doncic on his dime. Unfortunately, there is one player who won’t be able to attend as rookie Cameron Carr is obligated to attend the official NBA rookie orientation at that time and won’t be able to attend, via NBA insider Marc Stein:

The aforementioned Doncic has chartered a plane and is paying the full bill to fly and host every single Lakers teammate in his native Slovenia later this month. I’m told that 16 of the 17 players on the Lakers’ roster not named Doncic — from Austin Reaves to Walker Kessler to Bronny James to two-way signees Arthur Kaluma, Chris Mañon and AK Okereke –have all committed to attend.

League sources say it would have been 17 of 17 if just-drafted swingman Cameron Carr wasn’t required to participate in an official NBA rookie orientation that conflicts with what Doncic is calling a “team bonding trip.”

This is just extremely unfortunate timing for Carr who surely would love to attend the minicamp, but simply can not get out of this official NBA obligation. So this means the rookie has to miss out on the chance to build on-court chemistry and work out with his teammates, as well as off-court bonding time that really brings the entire team closer together.

Carr turned some heads with his performance in Summer League as he looks like a ready-made scorer at the NBA level who can shoot from distance but also attack the basket and finish at the rim with authority. He also has great defensive potential due to his athleticism and long arms.

Whether he can crack the rotation as a rookie is unclear as he will be battling the likes of Adou Thiero, Matisse Thybulle and Ziaire Williams for minutes on the wing. And missing out on this minicamp might put him a step behind in that fight.

Cameron Carr willing to do ‘whatever it takes’ to help Lakers win

Regardless of whether he is a regular rotation member as a rookie or not, Carr certainly has the right mindset coming into the league as he made it clear he will do whatever he needs to do in order to help the Lakers win.
