Lakers Play Of The Week: Kobe Showing The Heart Of A Champion

It’s been an insane week for the Lakers, who clinched a seventh seed without the help of Kobe Bryant or Steve Nash in the line-up. The Lakers travel to San Antonio for the first game of the NBA Playoffs on Sunday. This week’s play of the week was a no-brainer, a play that can only be described in one word – heart.

Kobe Bryant went down in the Lakers win against the Golden State Warriors last Friday night in the fourth quarter. At the time, no one knew that Kobe completely ruptured his Achilles and would have surgery the next day.

—- Test your black mamba knowledge by taking this Kobe Bryant quiz! —-

The game was tied. Kobe had two free throws to shoot. He could barely walk, but if he didn’t shoot the free throws, he knew the Warriors could pick whoever they wanted to shoot. And, the Lakers needed those free throws. So, Kobe hobbled to the free throw line, and without the ability to bend his legs, knocked known both free throws. Perfectly. He took a few hobbled steps back from the free throw line as he waited for his teammates to foul so he could be taken out of the game and limp to the locker-room.

The Lakers won that game by just two points. And those free throws should go down as the most symbolic in NBA history.
