Lakers forward Pau Gasol will undergo a FAST technique knee procedure tomorrow after battling tendonitis in both his knees earlier this season.
Gasol will be operated on by Dr. Steven Yoon as the seven-footer battled several injuries throughout the 2012-13 season.
Gasol tweeted earlier today updating his current medical condition:
After talking to several specialists, I’m going to proceed to regenerate both of my patellar tendons and working hard to get back to my 100%
— Pau Gasol (@paugasol) May 8, 2013
At the end of the season, Gasol even mentioned going to Germany to undergo the same knee procedure that guard Kobe Bryant and former Lakers center Andrew Bynum had.
2012-13 was the worst season in Gasol’s career as he averaged a career low 13.7 points and 8.6 rebounds and he missed 33 games this season.
Gasol has been in the news lately as his name has been mentioned in several trade possibilities as he struggled in head coach Mike D’Antoni’s system. Regarded as one of the most popular Lakers, Laker fans are hoping that general manager Mitch Kupchak holds on to the two-time champion.
Hopefully the knee procedure will alleviate the issues in his knees and a timetable for his recovery isn’t known currently.
Here is the official press release from the Lakers:
