UPDATE: November 24, 3:08 PM PST: Yahoo! Sports Adrian Wojnarowski has confirmed that Xavier Henry has indeed torn his Achilles:

As feared, MRI has revealed a torn Achilles’ tendon for Lakers guard Xavier Henry, a league source tells Yahoo. He'll miss rest of season.

The Los Angeles Lakers have been destroyed by injuries over the last couple of years as nearly every major player has gone down at some point. This season has been marred by major injuries to both Julius Randle and Steve Nash.

Now the team may have suffered another big setback as the Lakers announced that Xavier Henry injured his Achilles and it may be serious as he will be getting an MRI:

.@XavierHenry suffered a left Achilles injury today in practice. Suspected to be a rupture. He’s getting an MRI right now to confirm.

— Los Angeles Lakers (@Lakers) November 24, 2014

Henry hadn’t been a regular rotation player this season as he was already recovering from off-season surgery on his wrist and knee, leading him to miss training camp. Byron Scott suspected that Henry may have lost some of his explosiveness and Henry has looked uncomfortable for the most part this season.

He showed flashes of being a solid contributor last season when he posted career highs in nearly every major statistical category, leading the Lakers to sign him to a minimum contract this year.

It had been rumored that Henry might be released if the Lakers were to sign another player in free agency, but that is no longer an option as the team is unable to release someone while they are injured. Injuries are a part of the game, but the Lakers just can’t seem to shake this curse of the last couple years.
