Now, in his first year as head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers, Byron Scott understands that the Lakers have a tough road ahead of them. According to Bill Oram of the OC Register, he had a simple message for the fans:

Scott has said on numerous occasions that he believes the Lakers can turn things around quickly, though he has refused to put a time frame on anything. Even still, he is right to stress patience from the fans, who are in an unfamiliar position.

The Lakers have always been able to acquire the right players at the right time to quickly turn their fortunes around, but there are very few obvious possibilities that will quickly put the Lakers back into contender status.

Not to mention, the Western Conference is stacked with perennial contenders like the San Antonio Spurs and Oklahoma City Thunder, as well as up-and-coming teams like the Golden State Warriors and Portland Trail Blazers. Just making the playoffs is going to be a battle in this conference.

Scott understands that he will need time to get the Lakers back to where they expect to be. While the fans may not be used to not being a contender. It is still a very real possibility.
