Once the Los Angeles Lakers failed to land Carmelo Anthony in free agency, they quickly moved on to filling out the roster the best way they could.

Once everything was put together, the Lakers finally made the decision to hire Byron Scott as the next head coach. Looking at his team going into next season, Scott believes that this team can compete according to our own Serena Winters:

The Lakers definitely have an intriguing roster. Kobe Bryant is returning and plans on sending a message to the rest of the NBA.

The Lakers also added good players like Jeremy Lin and Carlos Boozer while bringing back key players from last year’s team such as Nick Young, Jordan Hill, and Xavier Henry. With the drafting of prized rookie Julius Randle, the Lakers have a lot of talent with tons of potential to make some noise next season.

The main problem for the Lakers is that, unfortunately, they play in the Western Conference. With the San Antonio Spurs, Oklahoma City Thunder, and Los Angeles Clippers at the top, the Lakers will be hard-pressed to compete with those teams.

Last year, the Dallas Mavericks needed 49 wins to claim the eighth seed in the conference, and 48 win-Phoenix didn’t see the playoffs. Competitive is a step in the right direction for this Lakers team, but the road to championship contender may be a long one.
