Byron Scott: Lakers ‘Probably’ Will Look For Another Point Guard

Byron Scott

While everyone was hoping for the best, many were expecting the worst when it came to the health of Steve Nash and everyone’s worst fears were realized when Nash was ruled out for the entire 2014-15 season.

With Nash now gone, the Lakers have only two point guards on the roster in Jeremy Lin and Ronnie Price. According to the OC Register’s Bill Oram, head coach Byron Scott says the team is likely to look for another point guard:

Though the Lakers have other players on the roster who could slide in at point guard such as Jordan Clarkson, Xavier Henry, or Kobe Bryant, adding another true point makes sense at least from a depth perspective. After what the team went through with injuries last year, having too many point guards is not possible.

The current point guards available in free agency is relatively thin with the most accomplished being veterans Mike James and Eric Maynor. With roster cuts coming soon, however, the Lakers could wait a couple of days and see which other players become available.

Young players such as Will Bynum, Peyton Siva, or Casper Ware could all be waived by their respective teams before the start of the season. The Lakers could also trade for another point guard, but however it happens, the team could be adding another player very soon.
