With the return of LeBron James and acquisition of Kevin Love, the Cleveland Cavaliers were expected to be a dominant force in the Eastern Conference once again. LeBron finally had the top tier talent around him in Cleveland to become a legitimate title contender once again, but things haven’t gone as planned.

After losing a fifth straight game and being asked constantly about the direction of the team, Cavaliers head coach David Blatt made a controversial comment about one of his star players.

Blatt was asked why the team is struggling with two max players on the squad in Love and Kyrie Irving. Blatt, clearly frustrated with the question, responded with the following according to Blake Ellington of Sactown Royalty:

Reporter: "Kyrie Irving, Kevin Love they are two max players, they're here." Blatt responds quickly: "Kevin's not a max player yet."

LeBron is currently dealing with a knee injury that has kept him out the last eight games. The Cavaliers have won only one game with LeBron on the shelf and that’s saying much considering it came against the lowly Charlotte Hornets.

Needless to say, the dream scenario of LeBron, Love and Irving in Cleveland hasn’t gone as planned. Love’s future with the Cavaliers remains in doubt with Blatt not believing he’s deserving of a max contract.

Love will become an unrestricted free agent this summer with many teams expected to come calling. The Los Angeles Lakers will certainly express their interest in the perennial All-Star with the prospect of becoming the new face of the storied franchise.

Although it is quickly turning into an unfavorable situation for Love in Cleveland, there’s still a lot of basketball left to be played and things could turn around before the end of the season. Love leaving Cleveland seems to becoming more and more likely, but a long-term future with the Cavaliers still isn’t out of the question.
