David Stern: ‘My gut is we won’t be playing Christmas’

Last week NBA commissioner David Stern cancelled the first two weeks of the regular season due to the lockout. Since then there has been little to no progress, and now it seems as if more games are in jeopardy.

The next round of cancellations will involve the rest of November’s scheduled games and then into December. So far the league has already cancelled games up to and including Nov. 14.

“Right now, Tuesday, Tuesday, Tuesday, just before my owners come into town, having brought in the labor relations committee and Billy (Hunter) having brought in his executive committee, it’s time to make the deal. If we don’t make it on Tuesday, my gut — this is not in my official capacity of canceling games — but my gut is that we won’t be playing on Christmas Day.”

This means that by this time next week the NBA may be officially gone until at least the beginning of 2012.
