The Los Angeles Lakers got back in the win column against the Toronto Raptors on Sunday night, and a big reason for that was the play of Deandre Ayton inside.

Ayton finished with 25 points and 13 rebounds on 10-for-10 shooting from the field. He became the first player this season to record a 20-point game on perfect shooting with at least 10 field-goal attempts and the 34th player in NBA history to do so with 10 or more rebounds.

He also became just the third player in Lakers history to shoot 100% from the field on 10 or more attempts with at least 10 rebounds, joining Wilt Chamberlain on March 11, 1969 and Mitch Kupchak on Nov. 20, 1981.

When discussing the perfect performance, Ayton gave a lot of the credit to his teammates for getting him open looks around the basket.

“I’m not gonna lie, that’s pretty cool,” he said. “But I definitely give it up to my teammates they find me in the most easiest spots ever and I got some easy ones tonight, for sure.”

Ayton would continue on, discussing what making Lakers history alongside legends like Chamberlain and Kupchak means to him.

“That’s things I never even thought I would be a part of. I’m definitely honored and appreciative. I love this game, so hopefully I get more of those,” Ayton said.

Not to get lost in the big man’s perfect performance was the Lakers holding the Raptors to just 93 points, which was the best defensive performance of the season for L.A.

Ayton thought the win started with the team’s defense but also credited superstars Luka Doncic and LeBron James for the pressure they put on the rim that led to his own big offensive night.

“It started with our defense, bringing energy to the ball. Guys cutting, moving energy, ball-finding energy and that’s what happened tonight. Luka and Bron putting pressure on the opponents and in their paint, spreading off of threes, getting lobs and dump balls in the dunker. It was all in the rhythm today.”

Deandre Ayton emphasizes need to ‘keep going’ after Lakers win

The Lakers have struggled in recent weeks, and the tough schedule hasn’t helped. Things won’t get any easier as they now head out on a season-long eight-game road trip, and Ayton emphasized the need to stay positive and confident.

“Keep going. Just keep going. Play hard every day. Yep, that’s about it,” Ayton said after the win over the Raptors.
