DeAndre Jordan’s Flagrant Foul On Nick Young Downgraded

Nick Young

On Tuesday night’s 116-103 victory against the Clippers, two flagrant fouls were called in the second quarter. The first occurred earlier in the quarter when Matt Barnes clotheslined Shawne Williams and decided to stare him down. Later in the same quarter, DeAndre Jordan was called for another as Nick Young landed awkwardly on the foul after attempting a reverse layup.

While Jordan’s foul didn’t seem to be a flagrant 1, the officials during the game confirmed it after review and awarded the Lakers two free throws and possession of the ball. However, the NBA reviews all flagrant fouls after the game and determines if the call needs to be upheld or downgraded.

On Friday, the NBA reviewed both plays and determined that Jordan’s foul on Young be downgraded from a flagrant 1 to a personal foul. However, Barnes’ foul on Williams was upheld and he now has one flagrant foul point for the season.

Last season, the one-time Laker was one flagrant foul away from being suspended by the NBA. In an attempt to clean up the game, the NBA suspends players who commit more than five flagrant fouls and Barnes is certainly a candidate every season for his hard fouls.
