After a nine game losing streak, the Los Angeles Lakers had an impressive victory over the Chicago Bulls in double overtime on Thursday. With the Grammy Trip beginning in New York on Sunday, former Laker and current Knicks head coach Derek Fisher talked about his former teammate.

Kobe Bryant and Fisher came into the NBA together in 1996 and have won five championships. With Kobe out for the remainder of the season with a torn rotator cuff after surgery, Fisher is confident in Kobe’s return via Mark Medina of the Los Angeles Daily News:

“I would assume it has been,” Fisher said. “He’ll continue to learn from each of these setbacks. He’ll learn from this one again. He’ll come back still determined because that’s the way he is. He’ll continue to be smarter and smarter on how far the limits are that he can push so he can stay healthy throughout the season.”

Fisher believes Kobe has accepted his limitations at this stage of his career after three consecutive season-ending injuries. As a result, Kobe will use this information to get through next season without another major injury.

For the Lakers and Knicks, both franchises are struggling as they have two of the worst records in the NBA. However, both franchises will be armed with ample cap space to pursue big-name free agents this summer as they look to rebuilding themselves into championship contenders.
