Deron Williams Optimistic About Team USA, Olympics

Deron Williams has been discussed quite a bit lately in Los Angeles as many fans are hoping the Lakers find a way to pull off a sign-and-trade that will bring the All-Star point guard to Hollywood.

Now, Williams is being discussed for a different reason. With the Olympics right around the corner in London, the members of Team USA will be selected soon. Williams is expected to be on that team, and was optimistic about the team’s chances to bring home a second consecutive gold medal.

In an article by Mark Medina of the L.A. Times, Williams discussed Team USA and the summer games.

“I think its going to be a talented team regardless,” Williams said Wednesday at the E3 Expo, where he was promoting the video game NBA Baller Beats, which features him on the cover and will be released in September. “I think it could be a more talented team than the last go-around.”

Williams also discussed another key member of Team USA – Kobe Bryant. If Williams does end up a member of the Lakers he will get plenty of time to play with Bryant. But, until then he’s going to have to live with having Bryant as a teammate for the Olympic tournament only.

Still, Williams is excited to play with Bryant, and looks forward to having him on his side.

“It’s good to have to be on his team for once and not have to guard him and keep him from scoring 50 on you,” Williams said. “He’s a very intense guy. He’s very passionate about the game. He’s a winner. It’s fun to see his work ethic up close and personal.”

With the Lakers out of the post-season, the Olympics are the next thing on the horizon for Bryant, Pau Gasol and the rest of the league’s Olympians.
