ESPN will release a documentary which centers around Magic Johnson’s announcement that he contracting the HIV virus, Mark Medina of the Los Angeles Times reports. The hour-long documentary will air on March 11 at 9 p.m. Eastern time, titled, “The Announcement.”
Johnson announced the tragic news 20 years ago, and thankfully, he has fought the disease and is spending his time as an NBA analyst on ESPN.
“Was I scared? No question about it I was scared,” Johnson says during the documentary. “I wasn’t scared to announce it. I wasn’t scared of the media. What I was scared of is … would I see them again?”
Johnson has been a role model for many people and a spokesperson for preventing the spread of the virus. Johnson had always stayed positive during the tough time, and although the announcement seemed like a death-sentence, Johnson is still living today.
