Michael CooperFormer Los Angeles Laker, Michael Cooper has landed a new coaching job in the WNBA with the Atlanta Dream.

Cooper won five titles during his time with the Lakers and played an integral role in the success of the “Showtime” era. Now, Cooper is looking to take his basketball expertise to the Dream and guide them to a league title, ESPN reports.

The Atlanta Dream hired former NBA star Michael Cooper as head coach on Thursday, hoping he can lead the team to a WNBA championship after three winless trips to the finals.

“The team’s appearance in the WNBA finals shows they are on the right track,” Cooper said in a statement. “They’ve been knocking on the door of a championship, and I know what that felt like in my early years with the Sparks, but now it’s time to kick the door in and make it happen.”

Cooper previously coached the Los Angeles Sparks from 2000-04 and later returned to the sidelines for Los Angeles from 2007-09. During his time away from the Sparks, Cooper coached in various other leagues including the NBA, D-League and women’s college basketball at the University of Southern California.
