NBA: Los Angeles Lakers-Press ConferenceThe Golden State Warriors are closing in on that that max slot for Dwight Howard, a source told Lakers Nation.

So, if that’s all Dwight needs, he’s theirs.

After meeting with Howard Tuesday, the Warriors, who had started trying to unload the expiring contracts of Andrew Bogut, Andris Biedrins and Richard Jefferson, kicked the project into high gear.

If it’s assumed from that Howard told them something encouraging, we may soon learn now encouraging.

“Bogut will be easy,” said the source. “He has value. The other two, they may have to package with No. 1 picks. But there are like 15 teams that have the room, and won’t mind sticking it to the Lakers.”

It’s not known if the Warriors approached the Lakers about a sign-and-trade. The Lakers would likely have asked for Stephen Curry, and then, possibly, fallen back to a request for Klay Thompson and Harrison Barnes (plus Bogut’s expiring contract and a 2014 No. 1). Whether the Warriors heard that and were horrified or realized it would be coming, they’re well into the process of trying to do this without the Lakers.

Any Bogut deal would presumably be conditional, based on Howard signing with the Warriors.

So, how do you like your old Pacific Division now?
