Happy 37th Birthday Derek Fisher

Lakers captain Derek Fisher is celebrating his 37th birthday today. Born on this day in 1974, Fisher was drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers with the 24th pick in the 1996 NBA Draft.

Currently Fisher is working as the head of the NBA Player’s Association. Fisher is working to end the NBA lockout that is threatening the 2011-12 NBA season.

Fisher has won five NBA championships with the Lakers. He was on the team that won three consecutive titles from 2000-02, and was the starting point guard for two more titles in 2009-10.

Known for his savvy knowledge and clutch shooting on the court, Fisher has become one of the most recognized Lakers of his generation. His most famous moment is very likely the ‘0.4’ shot, which propelled the Lakers to a 3-2 series edge over the San Antonio Spurs in the 2004 Western Conference Semi-Finals.

So from all of Lakers Nation here’s a very happy birthday to the best Lakers’ point guard since Magic Johnson. In his honor here’s a clip from Fisher’s remarkable Game 3 performance against the Boston Celtics in the 2010 NBA Finals. Fisher scored 11 of his 16 points in the fourth quarter to propel the Lakers to a 91-84 victory on the road. It allowed Los Angeles to re-claim the home court advantage that allowed them to win Game 7 in Staples Center.
