After a rough opening night that saw the Los Angeles Lakers not only lose the game to the Houston Rockets, but also their best young talent, the team must move on quickly as they play the Phoenix Suns tonight.

The Suns boast arguably the best collection of point guards in the NBA with the combination of Goran Dragic, Eric Bledsoe and Isaiah Thomas. However, Thomas was interested in joining the Lakers in free agency this off-season as he revealed to Grantland’s Zach Lowe, but things didn’t work out:

First off, it’s the Los Angeles Lakers. Who wouldn’t want to play for them? Second off, I felt like they always needed a point guard — a small guard like myself. I always envisioned myself playing with the Lakers, but like you said, they were waiting on Carmelo and other moves. The Suns came out of nowhere and showed a lot of interest, and I fell in love with them.

While surely not something the Lakers Nation faithful would like to hear as the Lakers struggle with injuries, Thomas definitely would have been an excellent addition to the Lakers especially with his offensive talent.

The Lakers were focused on getting a superstar, and holding out for the chance to sign Carmelo Anthony is completely understandable. Everyone else takes a backseat for a player of that caliber and some players choose to wait it out while others move on.

Times are tough for the Lakers right now, but the season is just getting underway. Unfortunately, the Lakers get a look at what could have been, tonight in Phoenix.
