Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James has developed a reputation — in the eyes of many fans — for being ‘performative’ with how he presents himself to the public. Some have said James outright lies with examples of him talking about books he has read or being a fan of artists before they were popular.

The latest apparent example of this came when James was seen in Miami before the Lakers game against the Heat, carrying a vinyl copy of “The Fall Off” album from hip-hop star J. Cole. Vinyls are rarely seen these days so many immediately looked at this as another example of LeBron showing out for the public.

But J. Cole himself explained exactly what was happening in an appearance on the “7pm in Brooklyn podcast with Carmelo Anthony:”

“In reality, that was at the Heat game, and he was bringing his vinyl because I was at the Heat game and I asked him if he would meet my kids. My oldest is getting into basketball, ‘Bron is his No. 1. I hit ‘Bron and he graciously said he would do it.

“And on his way, he had ‘The Fall Off’ vinyl so I could sign it. Thank you ‘Bron for doing that. This bro was doing me a solid. That’s a crazy feeling to see your kids meet a superhero. That was my first time ever doing something like that.”

In this day and age people can often be very quick to jump to conclusions, especially on social media when repercussions don’t regularly come down on people. But as it turns out, what was initially believed to be LeBron being extra was actually a case of the Lakers superstar going out of his way to do something for J. Cole’s son.

James is one of the greatest basketball players of all-time so it makes sense that he would be J. Cole’s son’s favorite player and any parent would do anything they could in order to give their child an experience of that nature. Due to being a rap superstar, Cole was able to make this happen and LeBron being willing to do that shows his character as well.

One thing that can never be questioned about LeBron is his willingness to give back to his community and create special moments for his fans and especially the children. It can be entertaining to poke fun at certain things he does, but when push comes to shove he continues to make lifelong memories for many around the world.

LeBron James praises Lakers

LeBron James was able to help the Lakers extend their win streak on that night in Miami and even though they have since lost, seeing their streak end at nine consecutive victories, LeBron praised his team for the mental toughness they showed throughout their recent run.
