Jeremy Lin Not Trying To Recreate ‘Linsanity’ In Los Angeles

The Los Angeles Lakers introduced recently acquired point guard Jeremy Lin on Thursday ushering a new era at the position. Although Lin hasn’t been the same player since he burst on the scene with the New York Knicks in 2012, the 25-year-old is an upgrade at the position and could become the starter next season.

During the introductory press conference on Thursday, Lin was asked about “Linsanity” and if he can recreate that in Los Angeles. Lin said the following, according to Lakers Nation reporter Serena Winters:

Lin on not trying to recreate Linsanity: "Now my goal is I’m not trying to be a player from the past. I’m trying to make history again.

Last season, Lin averaged 12.5 points and 4.1 assists per game while with the Houston Rockets. Lin played in 71 games and shot a career-high 35.8 percent from beyond the arc.

Heading into the 2014-15 NBA season, the consensus seems to be that Lin will be the starting point guard. A healthy Steve Nash could change that, but the two-time NBA MVP has struggled to stay healthy over the last two seasons missing 99 games during his time with the Lakers thus far.

Rookie point guard Jordan Clarkson could also make things interesting heading into next season. Clarkson was impressive during the NBA Summer League this month averaging a team-high 15.8 points per game for the Lakers. Clarkson’s score-first mentality could change his role with the team as he could end up being more of a combo guard rather than a traditional point guard like Nash or Lin.
