Jordan Hill is known for his toughness and energy that provides the Los Angeles Lakers with rebounds and points around the basket, but he will now lend his name to another cause besides the Lakers.

According to a press release from BDA Sports Management, Hill is taking on a much bigger role for a completely different team:

Los Angeles Lakers Forward Jordan Hill will join thousands in support of breast cancer awareness and once again team up with Susan G. Komen Los Angeles County for the 2014 Komen LA County’s Race for the Cure.

The 26-year-old is involving himself because he has suffered the pain caused from breast cancer after losing his mother at the age of three. He now dedicates his time and efforts to breast cancer awareness in honor of his mother, Carol, and even donated tickets to breast cancer survivors earlier this season. The 18th annual Race for the Cure will take place on March 1 at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles.

Hill also had some words for those suffering from the disease or those considering joining the event from the press release:

There is an urgency for women to become aware and educated about early detection, says Hill. I am encouraging friends, family and fans to come out, join my team and walk or run with me to help provide mammograms for women in the Los Angeles community.

His goal and motto for the event is “Run For It, Not From It!” and Hill aims to inform and provide information on breast health to minority women. More information on the event can be found on the Team Hill page for the event or the Race for the Cure event page.

On the court this season, Hill has been one of the most consistent players, averaging career highs with nine points and 7.5 rebounds in just over 20 minutes per game. He has started 17 of the Lakers’ first 38 games.
