Judge Halts Sale of Kobe Memorabilia, Restricts Mother From Selling

Denver Nuggets v Los Angeles Lakers - Game 2Well, in the battle between Kobe Bryant and his mother Pamela over the sale of some of Bryant’s memorabilia that she was attempting to sell, it seems the first winner is Kobe. According to TMZ (with a h/t to Kurt Helin of NBC Pro Basketball Talk), a judge has temporarily halted the sale of Bryant’s gear until a hearing can take place to figure out exactly what they’re going to do.

Here’s the latest update from TMZ:

TMZ has learned a judge issued a temporary restraining order against Goldin Auctions, prohibiting them from selling Kobe’s jerseys, championship rings, trophies, and lots of other stuff until a full hearing can be held next Monday.

So, what exactly was Pamela trying to sell? That’s where Helin and Pro Basketball Talk comes in.

Kobe Bryant’s mother Pamela wanted to put a bunch of memorabilia Kobe left at her house — a Lower Merion game worn high school jersey, a replica 2000 Lakers championship ring he gave her and more — up for auction. Not for charity, she wanted to money to put down on a house.

I guess it’s obvious why Bryant wouldn’t want some of this stuff auctioned off. Still, after the initial news broke followed by the report that Bryant was counter-suing his mother, this appears to be getting uglier. It probably doesn’t help Kobe’s state of mind that he’s trying to recover from the most gruesome injury he’s ever dealt with, either.

Still, this is just the latest chapter in a story that is certainly far from completion.
