Kobe Bryant Celebrates 3-Point Shooting Anniversary

Kobe Bryant has had some extraordinary moments in the NBA. He scored the second most points of all time in a game dropping 81 against the Toronto Raptors. He once single-handedly out scored the Dallas Mavericks 62-61 through three quarters. He also strung together nine consecutive games of scoring 40 points or more.

But who has the record for the most 3-pointers made in a single game? Is it the all time leader in threes made, Ray Allen? Reggie Miller? Is it Donyell Marshall? Unfortunately, the last one is true. Kind of.

On January 7th, 2003 against the Seattle SuperSonics, Bryant had another moment that some fans tend to forget about. Kobe Bryant made 12 of 18 from behind the arc on route to 45 points (and for this season’s Laker fans, a win that night).

He broke the NBA record that was previously held by Dennis Scott who hit 11 threes in a game. Kobe also set a single game record connecting on his first nine three point attempts before his missed his tenth.

In the recap of the game from ESPN.com, Kobe said he never thought he’d have a game like it. “I made the first one, I said, ‘Let me see if I can make two.’ I made the second one, I said, ‘Let me see if I can make three.’ I made the third one, I said, ‘I’ve got a rhythm going.’ ”

Unfortunately, on March 13th, 2005, Donyell Marshall of the Toronto Raptors tied Kobe’s mark with 12 three pointers of his own. Isn’t it generous of Kobe to let someone share a record with him? The Black Mamba has so many to go around.
