NBA: Los Angeles Lakers at Phoenix Suns

On Monday, the Los Angeles Lakers announced that Kobe Bryant will have surgery on his torn rotator cuff on Wednesday. While there is no timetable for return, it is expected the five-time champion will miss the rest of the 2014-15 NBA season.

While head coach Byron Scott and his teammates reacted to the news, Kobe shared his thoughts on the shoulder surgery tomorrow and used a Super Bowl analogy on The Players’ Tribune:

I feel like I just returned a 100 yard kickoff in the last two minutes of the Super Bowl to win it all only to have my run called back by a flag on the play.

In April 2013, Kobe ruptured his Achilles against the Golden State Warriors while driving past Harrison Barnes. While some thought it was a career-ending injury at this stage of his career, he returned where he unfortunately suffered a broken knee six games into the season against the Memphis Grizzlies.

With the shoulder surgery expected to keep him out as long as six months, it would mark his third consecutive season-ending injury. At the age of 36, it will be another challenge for Kobe as he looks to fight off Father Time and finish his career on a high note.
