Kobe Bryant Discusses Giorgio Armani’s Impact On His Post-Basketball Life

As Kobe Bryant’s basketball career is quickly winding down, his life after the NBA is a constant question among all of his fans. Bryant has already begun taking steps as far as his business ventures go and he is already looking towards making an imprint in the business world.

In his documentary, Kobe Bryant’s Muse, which airs on Showtime Saturday evening, Bryant spoke on a meeting with fashion mogul Giorgio Armani when he was just 20 years old and the impact it had on him via Sam Amick of USA Today:

I was in Milan, and I had lunch with Giorgio Armani,” Bryant says. “I was curious with how he built his company, and his whole process. And he told me he started Armani when he was 40, and for me it scared the (expletive) out of me, because I understood that a basketball careers typically end around 35, 36 if you’re lucky. And I’m going to play a long time, but then what am I going to do?”

Bryant would go on to talk about how his talk with Armani inspired him to figure out what that he really loved telling stories. Bryant said he also learned so much from watching documentaries on Magic Johnson and Larry Bird which inspired him as a kid. With his own film, he wanted to do the same with today’s youth.

Kobe’s legacy on the court is already one of the greatest and with any luck he will be doing the same off the court as well. Kobe Bryant’s Muse debuts on Showtime Saturday February 28.
