Kobe Bryant: ‘Friends Come And Go, But Banners Hang Forever’

Kobe Bryant with Trophies

One of Kobe Bryant’s greatest attributes is his unwavering focus and commitment to greatness. Very few people in the history of the NBA have put in the work that Kobe has, but putting all of his time towards basketball leaves very little time for a social life.

Bryant has admitted that he isn’t a good friend because he puts so much time towards basketball. In an interview with Jemele Hill for the BET Experience, Bryant gave a very simple reason for why he chooses basketball over friends via ESPN’s Baxter Holmes:

Championships is what Bryant plays for and he has been fortunate enough to experience his fair share of success in the NBA, helping the Los Angeles Lakers to five championships in his 19 year career.

As his career starts to wind down, no one is sure if Bryant will get one more opportunity to add to his championship collection. Bryant’s contract runs out after this season and no one knows whether it will be his last. Bryant himself wouldn’t admit if this would be his last season, simply saying it might be.

Once Bryant finally does call it a career, maybe he will have some more time for friends, but it’s all about championship banners now.
