Kobe Bryant Injury Update: Return ‘Completely Out Of My Control’

After the 92-86 loss to the Chicago Bulls, Kobe Bryant was at the Nike Vault to discuss his shoes and the Prelude Pack. While most of the discussion was about his new shoes, Bryant spoke about his current injury and when he will return.

With Bryant dealing with a fracture of the lateral tibial plateau in his left knee and out past All-Star weekend, the five-time champion says he doesn’t know when he’ll return:

“Injuries doing alright. Slow. The process is slow. It’s frustrating because it’s out of your control.”

With the injury testing his patience, Bryant is still cycling and has not been able to do any training:

“Just cycling. No training. First week is cool, second week, third…needs some other s***.”

With the Los Angeles Lakers 18-33 and headed for the lottery, most fans would like to see Bryant sit out the rest of the season. While it may actually come down to that if the injury doesn’t heal as quickly as anticipated, Bryant has maintained that he will play regardless of the team’s situation.

In six games this season, Bryant averaged 13.8 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 6.3 assists after returning from the Achilles rupture he sustained last April. The five-time champion is currently limited to bike work and will have to patiently wait for the injury to heal on its own.
