Kobe vs Cousins

For top-flight athletes, especially those getting older, every single small thing matters when it comes to performing at their highest level. Something that many struggle with is having the proper diet in the later stages of their career.

Kobe Bryant has always been one of the most prepared athletes and according to ESPN Los Angeles’ Baxter Holmes, he has relied on bone broth as a staple of his nutrition plan for quite some time now:

I’ve been doing the bone broth for a while now,” Bryant said. “It’s great – energy, inflammation. It’s great.”

The broth is usually used to make different soups which Lakers strength and conditioning coach Tim DiFranceso says the mineral it provides are extremely important, especially to someone of Bryant’s age:

When you make it the right way, you get the minerals and the exact building blocks of what makes up our joint surfaces,” DiFranceso said. “He’s recognized in the last few years, since sort of pointing him in the direction, of how important that will be.

“And it’s ultra, ultra important for him, maybe more so than the other guys, than a 22-year old who has really pristine joint surfaces and can get away with it and maybe doesn’t need it right now.”

Bryant has always been someone who takes great care of his body. Whether it is ice baths, deep tissue massages, or his trips to Germany, he will do whatever he can to ensure he is at his best when he is on the court.

This season has been one of discovery for Bryant as he realizes what his body is still capable of. With bone broth being a staple of Bryant’s nutrition, it is likely only a matter of time before other players join the trend as well.
