Kobe Bryant Still Thinks The Lakers Can Still Compete Without Dwight Howard

NBA: Los Angeles Lakers at Washington WizardsKobe Bryant thinks that even if Dwight Howard were to leave the Lakers via free agency this summer, the Lakers will still have an impact on the NBA.

According to Dave McMenamin, Kobe believes that the Lakers will find a way to thrive even if Howard departs, and the Lakers are staring up to the stars from the hole they will find themselves in.

“This franchise is a franchise that you really don’t have to worry about too much, because no matter what happens, whether it’s a year from now, two years from now, whatever the case may be, they’re always going to find a way to have an impact on this league,” Bryant said.

Although the Lakers are very limited with what they can offer to available free agents this summer due to being over the salary cap (even if Dwight signs with a team other than the Lakers), the Mamba understands how this franchise works through his first-hand experience.

Now lets not get carried away here, Kobe still wants Dwight to remain a Laker.

“We all want him here. But then that’s when the selling begins (after Howard is courted by other teams). You don’t start the selling process right before he goes and does all this stuff. You want to get the last word. You want to have the final word and the closing argument.”

It is clear that Kobe still wants Dwight to stay. He understands what Dwight being a Laker means moving forward after this upcoming season when Kobe, Pau, and Metta (possibly sooner) are off the books.

If the Lakers can retain Dwight, it opens up endless possibilities in very much awaited 2014 free agent class.
